A plug, similar to one that was seen spinning. (Authors’ collection)

With the increase in activity, the dog’s behaviour became more erratic; it barked and growled at thin air, becoming more anxious over time, and it wasn’t long before it disappeared and was never seen again. Jan’s partner remained stoic against the strange phenomena – until one day, when the plug in the bathroom sink began to spin wildly even though he hadn’t touched it. After this incident he refused to bathe alone and insisted that Jan didn’t leave him alone in the room.

One evening, while they were in the lounge watching television, a bright magnolia light manifested next to Jan at about head height; she described it as being about the size of a football, but an oval shape. She shouted to her partner, who was sat in a chair, but he’d already seen it. They stared in disbelief for around thirty seconds before it vanished. Jan recounted the story of the orb to her daughter when she visited later that week. Her daughter wasn’t surprised, as she had seen the same light in the back bedroom during a previous visit. A removal company had already taken most of their furniture, and all that was left were a few personal belongings and boxes. But during the final move, Jan refused point blank to enter the house and shouted instructions to her partner to hurry up. In the late afternoon, Jan noticed a bright blue fluorescent glow emitting from the lounge. She shouted to her partner, ‘What you messing with the tele for? You know I don’t want to be here after dark!’ Her partner came back to the door and said, ‘Jan, the TV went with the removal men! You’re freaking me out now. Come and help me get the last of the stuff so we can get out of here!’ But as Jan stepped into the hallway, she could see dozens of shadows encroaching and a feeling of impending doom swept over her. She and her partner dropped the boxes and fled, never returning to pick them up.

Jan often wonders what happened to the haunted bungalow, and if any occupants ever stayed there longer than a few months. After receiving this
