A plug, similar to one that was seen spinning. (Authorsâ collection)
With the increase in activity, the dogâs behaviour became more erratic; it barked and growled at thin air, becoming more anxious over time, and it wasnât long before it disappeared and was never seen again. Janâs partner remained stoic against the strange phenomena â until one day, when the plug in the bathroom sink began to spin wildly even though he hadnât touched it. After this incident he refused to bathe alone and insisted that Jan didnât leave him alone in the room.
One evening, while they were in the lounge watching television, a bright magnolia light manifested next to Jan at about head height; she described it as being about the size of a football, but an oval shape. She shouted to her partner, who was sat in a chair, but heâd already seen it. They stared in disbelief for around thirty seconds before it vanished. Jan recounted the story of the orb to her daughter when she visited later that week. Her daughter wasnât surprised, as she had seen the same light in the back bedroom during a previous visit. The couple knew that they had to leave, in order to avoid the haunting and oppressive atmosphere that was damaging their relationship.
Not long after coming to this decision, a close friend of Janâs came to visit. She pulled into the long driveway and knocked on the front door, but there was no answer because the couple were out shopping. Getting back in her car, the friend began reversing down the drive when she noticed someone at the window. Thinking this was Jan, she stopped â but was horrified to see the incomplete, partly transparent, torso of a woman in some sort of uniform standing at the window and waving slowly from left to right.
After hearing her friendâs story, Jan decided that they needed to move out that weekend. A removal company had already taken most of their furniture, and all that was left were a few personal belongings and boxes. But during the final move, Jan refused point blank to enter the house and shouted instructions to her partner to hurry up. In the late afternoon, Jan noticed a bright blue fluorescent glow emitting from the lounge. She shouted to her partner, âWhat you messing with the tele for? You know I donât want to be here after dark!â Her partner came back to the door and said, âJan, the TV went with the removal men! Youâre freaking me out now. Come and help me get the last of the stuff so we can get out of here!â But as Jan stepped into the hallway, she could see dozens of shadows encroaching and a feeling of impending doom swept over her. She and her partner dropped the boxes and fled, never returning to pick them up.
Jan often wonders what happened to the haunted bungalow, and if any occupants ever stayed there longer than a few months. After receiving this
